Welcome
Hello! Thank you for showing interest in The Lookout Campaign Game.
Each lookout will be a unique experience. Some will have structures, some will not. Some will have roads, some will have trails, some may have no easy route at all. I've tried to provide a rough description of what to expect, but things are always changing — and it may have been many years since I've personally made a visit.
In order to provide reliable and relevant information, I have to rely on fellow lookout baggers to share and give updates about the lookout and their route. That's what this campaign is built on — a community of explorers who leave the trail better informed than they found it.
The Adventure
The adventure is what you make of it. The means are endless — there is no wrong way to reach a lookout as long as you go prepared and leave no trace behind.

Required for Every Explorer
Please, please, please — Learn and Use Leave No Trace Principles
These aren't suggestions. The backcountry stays wild because people choose to treat it with respect. Before you go out on your first — or your fiftieth — lookout, read and commit to these principles. They take five minutes to learn and a lifetime to practice well.

How to Play
1
Create a free account
Sign up on the
registration page. You'll agree to the Leave No Trace principles as part of setup. Takes about a minute.
2
Pick a lookout and go
Browse the
interactive map to find a lookout that suits your skill and schedule. Read notes from fellow explorers. Check the weather. Tell someone your route. Go prepared.
3
Document your expedition
At the summit, take a photo of the lookout site and/or other photos from your trip. This is your proof of expedition. Photograph the site, the view, any remnants — the more you document, the more useful it is for the next explorer.
4
Submit your visit report
Complete your visit report on the
Submission Page. Include your photos, conditions, difficulty, route notes, and anything useful for the next visitor. Submissions are reviewed and approved before rewards are issued or the lookout is stamped in your Explorer Portfolio.
5
Bag them all and claim your prize
Complete all 12 Ashland Resource Region lookouts and you earn a hand-crafted Nijiel Handles keychain — made by our community partner, unique every time. Once your final submission is approved, reach out to claim yours.
📷 Proof of Expedition
What Your Photo Must Show
At the lookout site, take a photo of the location and/or other photos from your trip. This confirms you were physically present at the location. Submissions without a valid proof photo cannot be approved — don't forget before you head back down.
🏆

Win a Hand-Crafted Nijiel Handles
Each keychain is made by hand by our community partner — no two are alike. Complete all 12 lookouts in the Ashland Resource Region, get your submissions approved, and contact us to claim your prize. All profits from the campaign go toward The Lookout Campaign Game and trail work.
A Note From the Organizer
Unfortunately it takes a lot of time and effort to research and visit these lookouts — and I am simply only one person. The information I've provided is the best I have, but it's inevitably incomplete and sometimes out of date.
That's where you come in. Every submission you make — your trail notes, your photos, your route conditions — makes this register more accurate and useful for every explorer who comes after you. This campaign gets better the more people participate. Please share generously.
